Valorant game director Joe Ziegler is moving on from the position he has held for eight years, taking on a new role at an unnamed new project.
Ziegler has worked on Valorant, Riot’s popular free-to-play competitive hero shooter, since development began, and has continued to lead the development team post-launch.
In a farewell post addressed to fans on the Riot Games website, Ziegler announced that his time with Valorant was up, and also used the opportunity to name his replacement.
“I am giving up the mantle of game director of the Valorant tac-shooter to my good friend, Andy Ho,” Ziegler wrote. “Andy is someone who I am proud to say has put many years of his own into Valorant, and whose personal dedication to deliver to the highest standards inspires all who work with him.
Ziegler isn’t leaving Riot Games though, but simply moving to a new project at the company, and he didn’t give away any hints other than the fact that it’s ‘something new’.
“As for me, I’ll be starting something new (*wink, secrets…) in the hopes that we can even scratch the surface of the amazing impact Valorant has already had so far,” he wrote.
Valorant, with its tactical FPS combat, has quickly risen to prominence in the esports space, and is one of Riot’s most successful franchises. Its free-to-play model and reasonably low system requirements have also made it one of the most popular competitive shooters in India.
