The year 2021 was a great one for gaming, but after a slow December, the new year is hitting hard with some back-to-back triple-A releases that puts PC gaming at the forefront. From big-budget console ports that promise to look and run better than ever to new Ips, 2022 starts with a bang thanks with this incredible line-up.
God of War – January 14
God of War is a rare series that defined PlayStation’s journey across generations. With the 2018 release – which was also the recipient of multiple game of the year awards – the franchise finally makes its way to PC. The PC version promises visual enhancements and deeper graphical options, including the option to run it at an uncapped framerate. This technically superior release will also support Nvidia’s DLSS and Reflex technologies, and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection – January 28
The series that took action-adventure gaming to new cinematic heights is now making its way to PC, a first for the franchise that has been PlayStation-exclusive so far. What you get in this collection are Uncharted 4: Among Thieves, which is the final chapter in Nathan Drake’s story arc; and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, where you explore an all-new chapter set in India as Chloe – who has been a friend and fleeting love interest for Nathan Drake through the series. This collection is a great entry point into the series and has us looking forward to the future of the franchise.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction – January 20
Rainbow Six has been a fan favourite when it comes to tactical action games. Now, it seems that the series is ready to move on to a more mainstream audience with new sci-fi elements that has you facing off against aliens in three-player co-op action. Don’t expect this to be a run-and-gun affair though; each incursion will present a procedurally generated map and randomly assigned objectives. Rest assured though – the tactical elements are still very much present. We look forward to seeing how Rainbow Six loyalists respond to this new direction when it’s out on January 20.
Monster Hunter Rise – January 12
Capcom’s latest entry in its monster-slaying action-RPG franchise is making its way to PC in January. After being a Nintendo Switch exclusive for a while, the PC version will see some great improvements, including support for up to 4k display, higher frame rates, and direct voice chat support. Monster Hunter Rise introduces some new mechanics to the series, including a new animal companion called a Palamute, and Wirebugs that can be used to traverse the world, and also mount and ride certain monsters.
Windjammers 2 – January 20
It’s taken around 30 years to get a sequel to the arcade classic, Windjammers, but going by how much we enjoyed Streets of Rage 4 this year, the wait could well be worth it. The game is extreme frisbee on steroids (like the sport needed any more of that). It’s 1v1 action against another player or the CPU, complete with some incredibly over-the-top moves to dish out or defend against. Relive the 90s with updated visuals when it comes out on January 20.
