Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends and Titanfall, is working on three new Star Wars games. One of these is a first-person shooter, the second a strategy game in collaboration Bit Reactor, and the third is a sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
For a long time, EA had held the exclusive license to develop Star Wars games, but the license was recently made non-exclusive. Ubisoft took the opportunity to announce a Star Wars game of its own, which will be created by The Division creator Massive Entertainment.
But that doesn’t mean EA is taking a step back from the IP. Respawn’s Star Wars shooter could well be a follow-up or replacement for DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront series. Meanwhile, the in-development strategy game is in good hands too, with new studio Bit Reactor comprised of former staff from Firaxis, the developer behind the XCOM games.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a bit of a surprise package in 2019, with the single-player action-adventure game launching to both critical and commercial success.
The most recent Star Wars game from EA was Star Wars Squadrons, a space combat game developed by Motive Studios and launched in 2020.
